Sunday Soft Landing: 5 Gentle Resets for Mamas and Caregivers

Between the endless laundry and the mental checklist for the week ahead, Sundays can feel more like a countdown than a day of rest. If you're tired of starting Monday already feeling behind, here are five gentle ways to reclaim your evening Sunday, soften your nervous system, and create a soft landing for the week ahead.

It’s 7:00 pm on Sunday, and instead of feeling rested, you’re mentally running through your to-do list and bracing for the Monday morning rush.

Sound familiar? Me too.

Somehow Sundays have transformed from what used to be restful, easy days into last week's catch-up and next week's prep day. But what if Sunday wasn't about catching up, but about filling back up?

Self-care doesn’t have to mean an expensive spa day or another chore on your to-do list; it can be about small, intentional choices that give you the space you need to help move gently into the week ahead. Here are five simple ways to find your soft landing this Sunday.

1. The Mental Clear-Out: Using the "Brain Dump" List

The biggest source of Sunday stress can be the mental load. Grab a notebook and write down everything swirling in your head, from the grocery list to that email you forgot to send.

Once it’s on paper, your brain can stop holding it. Set the mental load down so you can actually relax tonight.

2. Movement for the Soul: Stretching and Breathwork

Most of your movement during the week is functional, like lifting children or ageing parents, carrying bags, or rushing between tasks. On Sunday, try to move just because it feels good.

Spend 10 minutes engaging in some light stretching, a few gentle yoga poses, or focused deep breathing. This isn't about working out or any form of punishment; it’s about reconnecting with your body and releasing physical tension. Let your breath lead the way and connect your back with your body, helping you shift from "doing" mode into "being" mode.

3. The Monday Gift: Prepping a Small Joy

I'm sure you could list off all the meals you have planned for this week and appointments on the deck. But what is one tiny thing you have planned that will make you smile tomorrow?

Maybe it’s setting out your favourite coffee mug, picking out an outfit that makes you feel confident, or choosing a track from the collection to listen to in the morning. Having one bright spot waiting for you on Monday morning makes the transition smoother.

4. The Hard Power Down

Decide on a time, maybe 8:00 or 9:00 pm, where the work of the house stops.

Use the final minutes of your Sunday for something purely for you: a book, a favourite show, or a warm bath. Closing the day on your own terms, rather than just collapsing into bed, is the ultimate act of self-care.

5. Softening into Stillness: A Low-Sensory Reset

Caregiving is often loud and overstimulating. Dim the lights, put your phone on "do not disturb", and listen to "End of Day Release". This specific track from my audio collection is designed to help you let go of the day’s tension and soften into a calmer state. Giving your nervous system this moment of peace helps signal to your body that the rush of the day is over.

The Bottom Line

You cannot pour from an empty cup. By taking even twenty minutes for yourself today, you aren't just helping yourself—you’re showing up as a more regulated, present version of yourself for the people you love.
